100 Feet

I looked forward to see this movie, because this ghost story was about a strong woman, haunted by the ghost of her murdered husband, without running around screaming like a typical woman haunted by ghosts. It all happens that way, although she does screams angry insults to the ghost. The ghost isn't a sissy either and capable of dealing physical damage to people and objects in the real world. The woman finds that out and also a grocery deliveryboy/lover does, only he doesn't survive to talk about it. The special effects where okay, although there where not many. There are also some funny oneliners who don't really fit.

description: Woman, confict with housearest, back in house where she killed her husband, ghosts, boundary on foot (100 feet max walking from the box), grocery boy, affair, jealousy

(Geoffrey): (rating 6-)
So, here is my second ghost horror movie. This one is not as cheesy as the one with the teacher and the student. Though it is not a brilant movie either. Having seen tons of gost stories already I can say safely that this one does not add much to the genre. You've a woman who killed her cop husband after he abused her quite al lot. The partner puts her in the house again for housearest. At some point weird things start to happen. Her husband ghost seems to be in the house and is quite strong for a ghost. He can't be touched, but he can touch and keep continuing abusing her. Why? Nobody knows.
Some bad: The story get cheesy here and there. Old re-used one-liners makes sure the movie looses some points, the end is very cliche, same goes for the partner role.
Some good: There is quite some action. The house is a row house, and not a big single fancy one. The ghost is quite brutal. Fanke Jansen play here role reasonable.

I gave the movie a 6- since it was not as bad as I was told. There are some scare effects, but the movie is not very scary. I like the action in this movie. A typical "Let's dance fucker' vibe.

Where to start?? The unconvincing dialogues? The nail-biting slow-motion? The acting? The story? This was horror, but not the way it was meant to be.

She needs to get rid of all of her husband's stuff so his ghost can't haunt her anymore - how perfectly fitting that any librarybook is always followed to the letter without the slightest doubt whether it actually works - ok, sure. But don't focus on that silly weddingring of hers: why would she still even be wearing it?? If this was a good Japanese horrormovie, they'd make her pregnant of abusive hubby and let her do an abortion all by herself in her cold mansion, finishing the whole deal by shredding the bloody abomination. Geez. It's not that difficult you know...

Haunted house keeps stay-at-home Famke busy

This film is not scary, is flawed and yet I still enjoyed watching it, trying to identify mistakes and to understand why the film does NOT work.

Through out the film one can clearly see that the editor has tried his best to fix flaws in the script and lack of character development. He has inserted some extra lines of dialogue and shots here and there in an attempt to help the audience. But there's only so much an editor can do...
I am pretty sure the writer/director did not have a post-it with the screenwriting mantra "show not tell" on his wall. So when there is no power in the house, Famke is shown on the phone with the electrical company stating that she will not have electricity all weekend (cue scary candle lit scenes in the corridor).

The 100 feet of the title refers to the electronic ankle monitor she wears in the film by the way, and not to the amount of footage they should have shot and kept for the final edit - the rest really went to waste!
