Edison and Leo
20:10 | Author: Unknown

description: Stop motion animation, some kind of special made dolls, Edison (inventor), Leo (son), wanker brother of Leo, female indians (some kind of amazones), inventions

(Geoffrey): (rating 8)
After 3 average/bad movies, finally a good one. The settings, stopmotion animation and story is very entertaining, same goes for the soundtrack.

There is an inventor (Edison) who also collects/steals items from allover the world. Of course some robbed people want to have their stuff back. So that is the message to everyone, don't Steal!!! (though the producer mentioned there was no secret story :-)). There are deaths in the family and Leo gets electric powers which is more a curse than a gift (be glad with what you have people!).

I find it a little bit difficult to say more about this movie. For me it is almost on the same level as Tim Burton's. Definately worth to see!

Twisted inventor accidently kills wife, revives her, gets haunted by Amazons, creates robots, gets revenged...

Rollercoaster fun in stop-motion! An action-filled feature film stuffed with twisted jokes, crazy characters and without any character arc! The story feels like a classic drama but presented to you in a dark comedy way with a big big wink. The voices were good, particularly Powers Boothe. Michael Richard Plowman (who?) managed a Danny Elfman-ish score.

Afterwards a short Q&A with a happy grinning producer. In answer to an audience-question: There is no message! We just wanted to take you on a rollercoaster-ride! The main character has no development or character arc whatsoever!

A dark claymation fable about the Edison family

The first stop-motion animated film ever to be made in Canada. And luckily they steered away from Disney style cliches and went for a Burtonesque love story / greek tragedy instead. Skillfully done with splendid lighting, adult humour, and a script that originally was conceived to be a live action vehicle for non other than Guy Maddin.
