description: Space cowboy, lounge singer, partner, paying off to society, mission, girl, episodes, comedy, spaceship, planets, male pregnancy, gay, small robot as a body host
(Geoffrey): (rating 9)
This movie blew my head off of originality and fun. There are quite some gay-friendly movies during this festival and I guess this is one of them. Though you don't see man-man, the story makes it quite clear. Also, that's not the point of the movie.
The movie is about Stingray Sam, a space cowboy who is a lounge singer. A former (jail) partner visits him who wants him to help him being a free man by doing a mission, which involves rescueing a young girl. The movie is in black-white and the main characters are funny as hell. The movie is splitted up in short series episodes, which makes it very original. The visuals in the movie look quite simple, but the idea is absolutely briljant, same for the music/singing in the movie. The storie/lyrics of each song makes you laugh.
To me the movie is such a out-of-the-box concept and I enjoyed every second of it. Therefor I give it a 9

One story told over the course of six 10 minute episodes, each one centered around a song by American Astronaut, Cory McAbee's band, and mixed with Pythonesque animation. To paraphrase Amazon: "if you liked American Astronaut, you'll also like Stingray Sam". There's plenty of similarities between the two, but luckily enough differences as well.
A true joy to watch, weird in a good way, with catchy tunes and unique characters.

Stingray Sam is a science fiction movie about a spacecowboy, Stingray Sam and his sidekick The Quasar Kid. They meet up on Mars where Stingray Sam is a singer. Both go on a quest to find a lost girl.
Originally made for mobile phone's in 6 episodes, they showed all episodes. It's funny and creative, there is music (sing along's), Terry Gilliamesque drawings, pregnant men and olives.

One of those films that I tend to describe as a combination of other films but I'll try to refrain myself. Still I'd have to link to "American Astronaut" made by the very same Cory McAbee.
Simple decor, simple animation, simple story and funny songs, and boy does that work well. Nothing in this film pretends to be more than it is and therefore the whole thing ends up right at the good end of the Uncanny spectrum where simplistic visuals invite you to imagine their human side.
Loved the crazy songs and again; a film that oozes the fun with which it has been made.
