Cause love is the effect
Links: AFFF / imdb
This film was high on my "must see" list of this year's AFFF. Reason: the entire film was shot in one (!) day. Stunning. But would it work, or would it feel like a cheap and cheesy flic? Both, if you ask me.
11 minutes ago consists of eight 11 minute journeys to one specific place and day in the film's past: a wedding reception. This story is told in a non-chronological manner, which is part of the joy and confusion in these kind of films.
Somewhat novel is the mixing of genres: the time travel /sci-fi aspect is used as a plot device to facilitate the underlying theme and genre of a romantic comedy. So don't expect a level of realism like in Primer (the protagonist in 11 minutes ago tells people straight away he is from the future for instance!), but instead more an ode to cherish each moment in a day and the intoxicating effects of love. Not everyone in the audience fell for this by the way, I think partly because the dialogue was a bit heavy handed.
All and all definitely a film to watch by fellow indie film makers and those with a romantic heart ;-)
